Dear College Panhellenic officers, fraternity/sorority advisors and vice presidents of student affairs,
The 26 member organizations of the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) voted on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, to direct all collegiate chapters to transition all chapter-sponsored Bid Day activities (i.e., gatherings and celebrations following bid distribution) to a fully virtual experience for the next 30 days. Our organizations want to continue partnering with colleges and universities to provide guidance that aligns with local/state public health guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
This latest decision comes after a series of other actions taken by NPC and our member organizations aimed to help equip our members with guidance to protect them, their campus communities and the local communities where our chapters are located:
- Beginning in April and working through the summer months, NPC's Recruitment Contingency Task Force helped guide College Panhellenics nationwide through the process of planning for the potential need to transition between in-person, hybrid and fully virtual recruitment styles.
- In mid-August, the NPC Board of Directors recommended all fall recruiting Panhellenic communities reconsider any in-person recruitment events and transition to a fully virtual experience.
- A few weeks later, NPC shifted our procedural guidance to College Panhellenics to transition to a fully virtual recruitment experience for all fall and spring recruiting campuses. Panhellenic recruitment hosted through the remainder of the 2020-21 academic year should be hosted as a fully virtual experience (recruitment events through electronic bid distribution). Read the announcement.
Earlier this summer, NPC also shared with College Panhellenics a Socially Distanced/Virtual Bid Day Resource that outlines the purpose of Bid Day and the responsibilities of the College Panhellenic and chapters. We have now updated the resource to be focused entirely on virtual Bid Day activities, and we encourage you to share the updated resource with your Panhellenic delegates
If you have any questions along the way, please do not hesitate to reach out to your NPC College Panhellenic area advisor, area advisor coordinator or Panhellenic support staff member at the NPC office. We are here to assist you.
Panhellenically,
